Street Cafes

Outdoor Cafes can make an exciting and vibrant contribution to the street scene and are increasing in popularity in many towns and cities.

We want to encourage the establishment of such facilities while ensuring a consistent quality of design that will enhance the local environment.

Applying for a Street Café Licence

If you plan to put tables and chairs outside your premises on the public highway, you will require a licence from Oxford City Council and possibly planning consent.

2. Complete the application form:

3. Submit the application form and application fee to Oxford City Council, Street Trading, St Aldate's Chambers, 109 St Aldate's, Oxford, OX1 1DS or alternatively by email to street_trading@oxford.gov.uk. Please ensure that you have read the checklist before you submit your documents to us.

Once we receive your completed application form we will consult with Thames Valley Police and The Highways Authority. The consultation will last for 14 days.

We will endeavour to process your application within 28 days of receipt.

Fees and Charges

There is a non-refundable application fee of £100, when you submit your application form.

The cost for a street café licence is £366 per table, per year subject to a maximum charge of 10 tables.
