Food Safety

We aim to ensure all food served and sold in Oxford is safe to eat. We enforce food safety legislation in 1,400 food businesses from greengrocers to university college kitchens. We carry out the following:

• inspect all food businesses to check standards of hygiene
• provide food hygiene training courses
• provide advice to food business operators
• investigate cases of food poisoning

• investigate food complaints.

Register your Food Business

You are required by law to register your food business. If it is new business you must register 28 days before opening. You must also register if you are an existing food business but you have made significant changes to the name, ownership or nature of the business.
