Your responsibilities

- Trying to clear leaves or rubbish from gullies before calling us.
- Repairing leaks from your washing machine or dishwasher, including the pipework.
Advice
- A blocked waste is not an emergency. You are expected to get it cleared yourself. See Clearing a blocked waste.
- A blocked toilet is not an emergency unless you have no other toilet you can use. Do not flush the blocked toilet until it has been cleared.
- If the blockage is caused by items such as nappies, toilet fresheners, baby wipes or medical products, we will charge you for clearing it. You should always try to clear it yourself before calling us. See Clearing a blocked waste.
- Do not use the bath, basin, sink or shower if the wastepipe is blocked; wait until it has been cleared.
- If an inspection cover is missing, contact us immediately. Also, please try to cordon it off to prevent anyone falling into it.
We need to know
- What is the problem, for example: wastepipe blocked or leaking; drain or gully smelling or blocked; gully grid or inspection cover damaged or missing?
- If a wastepipe is blocked, which is it: toilet, bath, basin, sink or shower? Is more than one fitting blocked? If you are in a flat, are other flats affected?
- If a toilet is blocked, is it the only one in your home?
- If a wastepipe is leaking, which is it: toilet, bath, basin, sink or shower? Is the leak coming from a joint, or is the pipe cracked? Can you contain the leak?
- If a gully is smelling or blocked, where is it? Have you tried clearing it yourself?
- If a gully grid is broken or missing, where is the gully? What is the grid made of: metal or plastic? Is it round or square? What type of surround does the gully have: brick or concrete?
- If an inspection cover is loose, damaged or missing, where is it: inside or outside the property boundary? If inside the property boundary, is it loose or is it damaged? Is it actually missing?
